Celebrate the harvest and prepare your heart and home for the coming winter with a spicy dark floral blend inspired by the Queen of the Underworld herself. Night blooming florals combine with sensual amber, spices, and woodsy notes for a hauntingly beautiful scent that will linger long after Persephone descends.
Our Persephone's Descent candle is a unique layered candle topped with six garnet stones to symbolize the six pomegranate seeds that bound Persephone to the Underworld. As the candle burns the white shimmery wax melts into a rich pomegranate red, mimicking her descent into the Underworld.
Each candle is blended with protective herbs and topped crystals charged under the full moon for a complete ritual experience.
The Autumn Equinox
Meet us on Equinox - meet us halfway, when the sun is perched at its highest peak, in the middle of the day (just kidding that's actually the summer solstice). Twilight jokes aside, the Autumnal Equinox is an important time of the year; it's the last day where light and dark are in balance, and it's when we celebrate Mabon, the second of three harvest festivals.
Mabon, often referred to as pagan Thanksgiving, is a celebration of abundance and gratitude. We celebrate the earth and all its gifts, and show gratitude for the bounty and abundance we have been given, and for the family and friends that make our lives fuller and richer.
The Autumnal Equinox is also when we celebrate Persephone's descent into the Underworld. As much as the Equinox is a time for celebration; it's also a time of death, darkness, and grief. It's a time to reflect on what we must release in order to make room for the unknown of the coming winter.
Herbs and Flowers
Sage, Calendula, Roses, Pomegranate Flower, and Rosemary: protection, cleansing, luck, abundance, releasing, warding, grounding, and driving away negative energies.
Crystals
(7 oz) Garnet and Citrine: grounding, protection, luck, abundance, balance, transformation, confidence, and beauty from chaos.
(2.5 oz) Garnet: grounding, protection, confidence, illumination, self-discovery, transformation, and shadow work.
The Ritual
Mabon is a time to gather and celebrate with friends and family, and one of the best ways to honor the harvest season is by preparing a ritual meal or hosting a potluck to share with those for whom you are most grateful. The meal itself doesn't need to be extravagant (or even fully homemade), but rather, prepared mindfully and with intention. Staples of a traditional Mabon feast are breads, roast meats, nuts, apples, pomegranates, and root vegetables like potatoes, carrots and onions.
Prepare a space for your meal using fall colors and foliage and light your candle. As you decorate the space and lay out your meal, focus on filling the space with your intentions and gratitude. Take a moment before the meal begins to set an intention, by yourself or with the group, and go around while you enjoy the meal talking about things you are grateful for or what you're ready to start doing or release in order for your manifestations to come true by next Mabon.
When the meal has ended, you can blow out your candle and clean up, or you may wish to take time to connect with the dark goddess and engage in shadow work. You can begin by thinking about Persephone's own transformation from Maiden Goddess of Spring to Queen of the Underworld.
How To Use
We recommend burning your candle for at least two hours on the first use. When burning for the first time, allow the wax to melt to the edge of the glass. Trim the candle wick before each use to approximately 1/4" (5mm). We recommend burning candles for approximately 4 hours at a time. Never leave a candle burning unattended or within reach of drafts, fabric, pets, or small children. Candle vessel will be hot after burning, so allow the wax to cool completely before handling.
Once you've completely burned your candle and allowed it to cool, you can remove and clean the crystal skull and use it as an altar decoration or a protective charm.
