Winter Solstice, also known as Yule or "The Return of the Sun", is an annual celebration that takes place between December 20 - 23. It celebrates a turning point in the season when, after the longest night, the days start to grow longer once again and hope returns.
Winter Solstice rituals tend to focus on two things: the cleansing and protection of the home, and embracing new beginnings by letting go of what no longer serves us. Now is the time to confront the darkest parts of ourselves, cleanse our hearts and our homes, and prepare to begin again.
Celebrate the longest night with a crisp wintry blend of cedar, juniper, and holiday ivy with a hint of cold night air.
Each candle is blended with protective herbs and topped crystals charged under the full moon for a complete ritual experience.
Herbs and Flowers
Cedar, Mistletoe, Pine Needles, Juniper, Mugwort, and Frankincense: cleansing, protection, purification, prosperity, releasing, banishing, positive energy, prophetic dreams, as well as good fortune and health.
Crystals
Garnet, Amethyst, Obsidian, Labradorite, and Citrine: cleansing, transformation, protection, relief from anxiety, and releasing. Citrine in particular serves as a reminder of the sun, and that even the darkest of nights will give way to the dawn.
The Ritual
On the dark night of the soul, we acknowledge there is both dark and light within our hearts, and we must face the darkness within head on, acknowledging what holds us back in order to move forward. In a sense, we practice shadow work on the Winter Solstice, and attempt to understand and embrace the darkest parts of ourselves in order to grow.
For this ritual, you will need the following:
- Quiet, dark room or space
- Small scraps of paper
- Pen or pencil
- Candle
- Fire-safe bowl
Find a dark and quiet space in your home or even within nature. Cleanse the area and light your candle. Focus on the flame and meditate on your fears and insecurities. What can't you let go of? What negative emotions and habits hold you back? What are you afraid of?
By the light of your solstice candle, write down the things you are ready to release. Read each intention aloud and when you are finished, in lieu of a yule log, use the candle's flame to ignite your papers. Once the fire catches, place the papers in your fire-safe bowl and let it burn completely to symbolize the transformation of darkness into light.
Now that you've released your darkness, take time to consider the future and what dreams or practices you wish to bring into your life in the new year. You can write down these intentions on paper (or bay leaves if you have them on hand) and read them aloud before burning them. And remember always to give thanks to the universe or your deity of choice for guiding you through the darkest of nights.
When your ritual is complete, scatter the ashes from your bowl outside and blow out your candle. You can light your candle anytime you need a reminder that there is love and light in your home and heart, regardless of the darkness in the world.
While it is customary to leave a candle lit during the eve of the solstice for protection, always remember candle safety is important, and candles in glass containers can shatter if they burn too low and become too hot.
How To Use
We recommend burning your candle for at least two hours on the first use. When burning for the first time, allow the wax to melt to the edge of the glass. Trim the candle wick before each use to approximately 1/4" (5mm). We recommend burning candles for approximately 4 hours at a time. Never leave a candle burning unattended or within reach of drafts, fabric, pets, or small children. Candle vessel will be hot after burning, so allow the wax to cool completely before handling.

This candle is gorgeous!! The colored glass container is a beautiful shade of cranberry. I love the stones and evergreen submerged in the wax. The wax shimmers as it heats up and the natural wicks make a lovely crackling sound. The scent is a lovely evergreen with notes of citrus. Candle burns evenly. I bought one for myself and fell in love with it and decided to buy one for my daughter who is a candle connoisseur. Gave it to her for the winter solstice celebration. Her “fav candle of all time”… also being Swifties - we also love the name!
I am OBSESSED with everything I ordered. From the candle itself to the packaging to the shipping - it was all perfect! Thank you so much!
